Presbyterians are a group of Protestants founded on the concept of a church governed by representative democracy under the guidance and a authority of the Word of God. The name Presbyterian comes from a New Testament title, Presbuteros, meaning "elder," and refers to the custom of choosing leaders from among the most spiritually mature members of the church. To become a Christian (and Presbyterian) one must: Confess that one has sinned in the sight of God Trust in Jesus Christ as our forgiving Savior Promise to follow Christ and his example for living Commit oneself to participate regularly in worship of the church and become involved in its mission.
